MAY 18 In a dramatic ending at Memorial Colisuem the Los Angeles Dodgers won in their last at-bat beating the New York AL Yankees by the count of 5 to 3. Los Angeles came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 3 hits. Willie Tasby led off and started the rally when he slapped a base-hit. Joey Amalfitano was next and he doubled. John Orsino then blasted a two-run home run (his 2nd of the season) giving Los Angeles the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. For the game Los Angeles out-hit New York AL 10 to 4. Jack Baldschun(2-3) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Luis Arroyo(0-3) took the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 3 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings. Los Angeles was unable to claim the lead after New York AL went ahead in the 3rd inning scoring one runner using 2 hits. Los Angeles threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. Dick Donovan(6-0) allowed 4 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory. Luis Arroyo gained credit for his 8th save. Don Drysdale(4-5) was the losing pitcher. When questioned about the loss, Los Angeles' manager said, 'The fans got to see an exciting game out there tonight. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the smiles.' He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 6th of the season) in the 1st inning, doubled bringing in a run in the 5th inning and doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 7th inning. Los Angeles won despite being out-hit by New York AL 14 hits to 10. The victory was credited to Sandy Koufax(7-1) who went 5 innings, allowing 5 runs. Ron Perranoski earned the save, his 8th.
