AUGUST 14 Dick Donovan pitched a 3 hit shutout as the New York AL Yankees
outscored the reeling Chicago AL White Sox 1 to 0. Donovan(12-3) dominated Chicago AL hitters. He allowed only 3
hits and no walks in 9 innings. New York AL had a total of 7 hits for the game. Billy Pierce(6-12) was given the loss. 'He was moving it
around and spotting it very well.' Chicago AL's manager said. Donovan pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.' [1]

Comiskey Park where the Chicago AL White Sox beat the New York AL Yankees by the score of 10 to 5. New York AL was unable to recover after Chicago AL went ahead in
the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring 4 runners on 5 hits. The big moment was provided by Minnie Minoso who thrilled the crowd when he stroked a one-base hit plating two runs. For the game Chicago AL out-hit New York AL 15 to 10. Don Larsen(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 2/3
innings and allowing 5 runs. Larsen got help from Frank Baumann who earned his 1st save. Whitey Ford(19-7) was the loser. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 11 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings. 'It felt really nice to get this win,' Larsen said. 'I kind of
dictated the game. It's what I get paid to do. It worked out this time.' [1]

scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Gene Woodling opened up the inning nicely when he reached on an error. Bobby Richardson followed and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Mickey Mantle then drew a walk. Blanchard stepped in and he laced a base-hit to load the bases. Bill Skowron came to the plate and doubled plating two runs. New York AL had 12 hits for the night while Chicago AL had 8. The winning pitcher was Ted Bowsfield(8-8) who allowed 1 run in 6
and 1/3 innings. Luis Arroyo earned his 14th save. Ray Herbert(11-13) absorbed the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. [1]
