Previous message                 Next message Message #: 5310 Message from: Billy Vanson Sent: Mar 15, 2007 Subject: ** RESULTS ** NY @ MIN SHANTZ get 61 season record in game 3   AUGUST 24   Catcher Elston Howard cleared the bases with his grand slam at Metropolitan Stadium where the New York AL Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins 7 to 5.   Howard was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at their team's expense.  He delivered a base-hit in the 2nd inning and launched a Grand Slam homerun (his 21st of the season) in the 3rd inning. New York AL finished with 9 hits in the victory.    The victory was credited to Dick Donovan(13-4) who went 6 and 1/3 innings, allowing 5 runs. New York AL ended up winning it in the 12th inning.  Joe Demaestri started the inning off right when he reached on an error.  Bill Skowron stepped up next and he tripled scoring a run.  Yogi Berra then slapped a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning.  It was roller coaster of a game as the lead change hands 5 times.    Tex Clevenger(2-0) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
