August 31 At Comiskey Park, the Chicago AL fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Billy Pierce(8-13) finally bested his New York AL opposite, Dick Donovan(13-5), by the score of 3 to 1. New York AL was unable to recover after Chicago AL went ahead in the bottom of the 4th inning plating an isolated run. After two outs Roy Sievers ripped a solo home run (his 27th of the season). Chicago AL had only 5 hits for the game. Turk Lown recorded his 18th save. Donovan took the loss. He pitched 7 innings and surrendered just 4 hits and no walks.
