In a tight game it was the Baltimore Orioles 6, the slumping New York AL
Yankees 4 at Memorial Stadium.

Stu Miller(1-0) earned the victory with a fine relief performance.  He did not
allow a baserunner in his 2 and 1/3 innings lowering his ERA from 1.59 to
1.32.  New York AL was out-hit by Baltimore, 8 hits to 3.

Dick Hall got the save, his 4th.  The losing pitcher was Al Downing(0-5).  He
allowed 6 runs and 8 hits in 7 innings.  The Baltimore ballclub's record now
stands at a division leading 20-10.  Billy Vanson was pretty down after the
loss.  'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 1-9 in the
last week or two.  That won't get it done.'

Baltimore brought 2 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 5th inning when
they had 3 base hits.  They ended up being the winning runs.  Both teams

innings allowing 6 hits and no walks.
