Subject: error in MVP voting
On behalf of plaintiffs Roy Hilton White and Harmon Clayton Killebrew, a petition to overturn the duly-tabulated American League Most Valuable Player (AL MVP) voting for the years 1969 and 1971 was filed earlier this morning with the New Jersey Supreme Kangaroo Court (NJSKC). In a remarkably rapid decision, the NJSKC has ruled that although the voters in both years selected Reginald Martinez Jackson as the AL MVP, Mr. Jackson would likely lose the November election to the Republican candidate, and therefore the voters were entitled to "a better choice" and may change their ballots months after they were originally cast. The NJSKC also (rather confusingly) ruled that overseas military ballots and ones from the Florida Panhandle should be discarded completely. After a hasty re-balloting under conditions specified by the Court, the 1969 AL MVP Award has been won by Harmon Clayton Killebrew, and the 1971 AL MVP Award voting finished in a tie, the award to be shared equally by Roy Hilton White and Reginald Martinez Jackson. There is no word yet on whether Mr. Jackson will appeal this controversial ruling to the United States Supreme Court, as there is apparently some question whether SMILEY League award voting falls under federal or state jurisdiction. However, in the event of a successful appeal resulting in yet another vote, Mr. Jackson has issued a statement to the effect that he will withdraw his name in protest, and is encouraging his supporters to write in the name "Robert Torricelli", even though records show that Mr. Torricelli did not play in any American League games in 1969 or 1971. ----------------------------------- Actually, Mike T. found an error in the MVP formula (in one place I was using total hits when I should have been using singles). The MVP results for all years for both leagues have been updated to reflect the more accurate counts. In most cases the order of the players remains the same, the new ordering mentioned above being the highest-profile changes. Alan |
