APRIL 27 Mickey Mantle had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Comiskey Park as the New York AL Yankees beat the Chicago AL White Sox by the count of 10 to 8. Mantle was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at their team's expense. He lined a single bringing in a run in the 3rd inning, doubled in the 5th inning, slapped a base-hit in the 8th inning and ripped a solo home run (his 12th of the season) in the 9th inning. New York AL rapped out 11 hits for the afternoon. The victory went to Jim Coates(1-0) who went 2 innings, allowing 2 runs. Coates got relief help from Bobby Shantz who gained credit for his 3rd save. John Gabler(0-1) took the loss in relief. 'After the stretch we have been through lately, this victory is especially sweet' offered New York AL's manager. Now, we just have to make this the norm - not the exception!' Freese enjoyed a big day at the plate. He popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 3rd of the season) in the 1st inning and doubled scoring two baserunners in the 7th inning. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for New York AL to come away with the victory. Early Wynn(2-2) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 7 innings. Joe Nuxhall recorded the save, his 1st. Bob Turley(1-3) absorbed the loss. He gave up 8 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings of work.
