In a dramatic ending the Detroit Tigers staged a comeback and held on to win

over the Chicago AL White Sox by the count of 6 to 5.

Detroit scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning scoring 3 runs on 4 hits.

After an out was recorded, Dick Tracewski opened up the rally as he doubled.

Jim Northrup stepped up next and he banged out a single scoring a run.

Eddie Mathews then stroked a single.  Dick McAuliffe was up next and he

delivered a one-base hit driving in one more runner.  Hoyt Wilhelm then fired

a sharp breaking ball that appeared to cross-up the catcher.  In any event,

it got by him and was ruled a passed ball scoring the final run of the

inning.  Detroit finished with 10 hits in the victory.

The win was credited to Jim Weaver(2-0) who went 1 inning allowing no runs.

Fred Gladding recorded the save, his 4th.  The loss was charged to

Wilhelm(0-1) in relief.  He allowed 4 hits and 1 walk in 1 inning.

Luis Tiant tossed a complete game as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Chicago

AL White Sox by the score of 4 to 1 at Comiskey Park.

Detroit drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning when

they tallied 2 runs on 1 hit.  That early scoring was all that Tiant(3-2)

needed.  Chicago AL proved to be no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.
