Subject: **** RESULTS **** new York @ Baltimore

MAY 1

First baseman Bill Skowron jacked one out of the ballyard and scored 3 times
as the New York AL Yankees outscored the Baltimore Orioles 7 to 0.

Baltimore fell behind quickly as the New York AL offense came through in the
first inning scoring 2 runs using 2 hits.  Norm Siebern kicked off the action
when he slapped a single.  Bobby Richardson stepped up next and he laid down
a sacrifice bunt.  After another out, Bob Shaw stepped in and he let a pitch
get away from him scoring a run.  Skowron was up next and he lofted a
solo-blast 'downtown' (his 4th of the season).  That scoring would be all
that was needed.  New York AL finished with 10 hits in the victory.

The win was credited to Art Ditmar(5-1) who went 7 innings allowing no runs.
Shaw(1-4) was charged with the loss.  When questioned, New York AL's manager
remarked, 'It's been a while since a win felt this good - heck, it's been a
while since we had a win period!'

Secondbaseman Bobby Richardson had 2 base hits at Memorial Stadium as the New
York AL Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles in 14 innings 5 to 3.

The score was tied at 2 after nine.  New York AL won the game in the 14th
inning.  After an out was recorded, Gil McDougald got things rolling when he
drew a walk.  Richardson came next and he stroked a one-base hit.  Bill
Skowron then clubbed a three-run home run (his 5th of the season).  New York
AL had 12 hits overall, while Baltimore had 8.

Jim Coates(2-0) was the winner allowing 1 run in 4 innings. Wynn Hawkins(3-5)
ended up with the loss in relief.  He allowed 3 hits and 1 walk in 1 inning.

New York AL now has a record of 17-14.  Baltimore's manager was pretty down
after the loss.  'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like
0-10 in the last week or two.  That won't get it done.'
