MAY 15

Glen Hobbie had a strong outing as the Kansas City A's defeated the New York
AL Yankees 4 to 0 at Municipal Stadium.

Kansas City took the lead for good in the 3rd inning scoring a single run on 2
hits.  The early run support proved sufficient for Hobbie(4-4) and Kansas
City.  That was all the run support Hobbie required.  Kansas City had 8 hits
for the afternoon.

Whitey Ford(4-4) suffered the loss.  He surrendered 2 runs and 6 hits in 7
innings.  Kansas City's manager was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such
a bad streak of games -- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back.  Now
maybe we can relax a little and play the kind of baseball of which we are
capable.'

Right fielder Hector Lopez rocketed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Kansas
City A's topped the New York AL Yankees by a score of 6 to 5 at Municipal
Stadium.

Lopez enjoyed a fine day at the plate.  He lifted one out of the park for a
two run home run in the 1st inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 5th of
the season) in the 8th inning.  Ned Garver(1-0) got relief help from Bill
Stafford who was excellent in relief and gained credit for his 2nd save.

Bill Fischer(2-5) was tagged with the loss in relief.  He surrendered 2 runs
and 2 hits in 2 innings.

The Kansas City A's nipped the New York ALto 1 at
Municipal Stadium in a hard fought contest.

The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings.  Kansas City was victorious in
the 13th inning.  Bob Cerv drew a walk.  Hector Lopez stepped up next and he
drew a walk.  El Tappe then laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Ruben Amaro stepped
in and he was walked intentionally to load the bases.  Don Blasingame stepped
into the box and worked the squeeze play to perfection resulting in an
exciting win for Kansas City and a wild post-game celebration by the home
town fans.  For the game Kansas City out-hit New York AL 10 to 7.

Frank Funk(2-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Jim Coates(4-2)
ended up with the loss in relief.  He gave up 1 run and 2 hits in 2 and 1/3
innings.
