Jim Bunning took a no-hitter into the 7th inning as the New York NL Mets beat
the San Francisco Giants by a score of 5 to 2.

Bunning(4-4) was on top of his game.  He didn't allow much, just 2 hits and 2
walks in 8 innings lowering his ERA to 1.87.  The right-handed Bunning lost
his chance for a no-hitter when Willie McCovey singled with two outs in the
7th inning.  San Francisco proved to be no trouble in the 9th.  

Don Shaw gained credit for his 2nd save.  Gaylord Perry(2-6) was tagged with
the loss.  He gave up 7 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings.

Don Mincher cracked a homer and had 2 RBI as the New York NL Mets outscored
the San Francisco Giants 5 to 1.

New York NL took the lead for good in the 3rd inning with 2 runs using 2 hits.
After two outs Cleon Jones got things going when he delivered a base-hit.
Mincher was next and he bombed a two-run dinger (his 8th of the season).
That was all the runs Bob Hendley(2-3) needed.  New York NL had a total of 9
hits for the game.  

Mike McCormick(2-8) was hit with the loss.  He allowed 5 runs and 8 hits in 7
innings.
