JULY 14 Jim Gilliam had 2 base hits as the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York AL Yankees by the score of 6 to 2 at Memorial Coliseum. New York AL had 2 runs cross the plate in the top of the 6th inning when they had 4 base hits. After two outs Ken Hamlin started the attack as he delivered a one-base hit. Gil McDougald stepped into the batter's box and he banged out a single. Elston Howard then ripped a base-knock plating a run. Bobby Richardson was up next and he laced a base-knock scoring the final run of the inning. New York AL rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon. The victory was credited to Cal McLish(3-7) who went 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing 1 run. McLish got relief help from Bobby Shantz who gained credit for his 7th save. Johnny Podres(7-13) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 9 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings. 'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it was nothing.' McLish said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put the ball where I wanted it.'
