Yankees came back dramatically to top the dreadful Boston Red Sox by the score of 9 to 8. New York AL erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning
scoring 3 runs on 3 hits. Albie Pearson kicked off the action when he ripped a base-knock. Tony Kubek got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Norm Siebern then stroked a single. Mickey Mantle came up and he drew a walk to load the bases. Bill Skowron stepped into the box and drew a walk resulting in a run. Gil McDougald added to the uprising and slapped a one-base hit bringing in another run. Yogi Berra stepped up next and he hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning. New York AL banged out 11 on the afternoon. Ryne Duren(2-0) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory.
Duren got help from Bobby Shantz who earned his 9th save. The loss was charged to Lindy McDaniel(2-8) in relief. He was not very effective, surrendering 3 runs in 2 innings. After the game, it took a long while before Boston's manager
emerged from his office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood this afternoon, as I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more light-hearted over in the New York AL locker room.' [1]

Yankees outscored the league door-mat Boston Red Sox 8 to 2. Skowron was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as
he provided much of the offense for the visitors. He stroked a base-hit in the 2nd inning, slapped a one-base hit which plated a run in the 4th inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 8th inning and cracked a two-run shot (his 23rd of the season) in the 9th inning. New York AL had 13 hits for the afternoon while Boston had 7. Ryne Duren(3-0) allowed no runs in 3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Tom Borland(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed 4 homeruns in 2 innings of work. 'I had a big day, but there's a lot of credit to go around' Skowron
said. 'We played well together as a team.' [1]
