JULY 24

Bob Nieman hit a homerun as the New York AL Yankees defeated the Detroit
Tigers by the score of 6 to 5 at Tiger Stadium.

New York AL brought 3 runs across the plate in the top of the 2nd inning when
they had 4 base hits.  Bill Skowron began things off when he delivered a solo
blast (his 26th of the season).  Elston Howard came next and he doubled.
After an out was recorded, Bobby Richardson stepped up to the plate and he
slapped a one-base hit.  Bob Turley came up and he laid down a sacrifice
bunt.  Nieman stepped into the box and was walked intentionally to load the
bases.  Hank Bauer continued the rally and stroked a base-hit adding another
two runs to their total.  New York AL out-hit Detroit for the game, 13 hits
to 7.

Turley(9-6) went 6 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Bobby Shantz earned
his 10th save.  Don Mossi(4-6) took the loss.  He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 12 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings.
