JULY 24 Bob Nieman hit a homerun as the New York AL Yankees defeated the Detroit Tigers by the score of 6 to 5 at Tiger Stadium. New York AL brought 3 runs across the plate in the top of the 2nd inning when they had 4 base hits. Bill Skowron began things off when he delivered a solo blast (his 26th of the season). Elston Howard came next and he doubled. After an out was recorded, Bobby Richardson stepped up to the plate and he slapped a one-base hit. Bob Turley came up and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Nieman stepped into the box and was walked intentionally to load the bases. Hank Bauer continued the rally and stroked a base-hit adding another two runs to their total. New York AL out-hit Detroit for the game, 13 hits to 7. Turley(9-6) went 6 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Bobby Shantz earned his 10th save. Don Mossi(4-6) took the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 12 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings.
