AUGUST 3 The New York AL Yankees came roaring back in the top of the ninth
to spoil the anticipated celebration of the hometown fans. The final score,, was 3 to 1. New York AL scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 9th inning
scoring 3 runs using 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Yogi Berra got things going when he slapped a base-hit. Hank Bauer got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Bobby Richardson then laced a one-base hit. Gil McDougald came up and he drew a walk to load the bases. Bob Grim then threw a wild pitch bringing in two baserunners. Albie Pearson joined his teammates in the uprising and hit a single scoring the final run of the inning. New York AL had 6 hits overall, while St. Louis had 2. The victory was credited to Ryne Duren(4-0) who went 1 inning,
allowing no runs. Bobby Shantz earned his 12th save. Larry Jackson(8-16) suffered the loss. 'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Jackson said. 'The bottom
line is I didn't get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.' [1]
