AUGUST 7 In a tight game it was the New York AL Yankees 6, the Chicago AL White Sox 4 at Comiskey Park. New York AL promptly took the lead in their half of the first scoring 3 runners on 3 hits. New York AL had a total of 9 hits for the game. Ralph Terry(8-4) got the win allowing 1 run in 6 innings. Ryne Duren earned his 5th save. Billy Pierce(9-12) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 8 hits and 6 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings. Chicago AL won the game with a run in the 9th inning. Gene Freese lashed a single. Frank Howard stepped into the batter's box and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. One out later, Frank Thomas came to the plate and laced a one-base hit. Chicago AL's manager then called for a steal which was successful. Clete Boyer came to the plate and banged out a single giving Chicago AL the win much to the delight of the home town crowd. Chicago AL rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon. The win went to Joe Nuxhall(2-4) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Bill Fischer(3-11) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed 3 hits and no walks in 2/3 of an inning.
