Subject: Montreal at Pittsburgh Week 15

It's one thing to be a bad team, it's another to be bad AND unlucky. Jim
Lyttle drops not one, but TWO fly balls to lose two separate games for the
Expos. Expos cannot score enough to overcome mistakes like that.
Pittsburgh doesn't hit much for the first three games, but they capitalize
big time on all Expo gifts. Pittsburgh sweeps four.

New Montreal Manager included.

Game 1
48,056 fans watched an exciting game at THREE RIVERS STADIUM. The
Pittsburgh
Pirates topped the hopeless Montreal Expos by the slimmest of margins, 2 to
1.

Pittsburgh scored the decisive runs in a big 8th inning scoring 2 runs.
Rennie
Stennett led off and he drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Dave Cash
came to the plate and doubled. Freddie Patek then reached on an error
scoring a run. Richie Hebner came up and he would hit into a fielders
choice
scoring the final run of the inning. The teams had been locked in a
scoreless duel until the 7th inning.

The win was credited to Steve Blass(17-2) who went 8 innings allowing 1 run.
Dave Giusti earned his 18th save. The losing pitcher was Woodie Fryman(4-8)
in relief. He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an
earned run in the game.

Game 2
Ken Reynolds(3-4) and Barry Lersch(2-3) treated the Pittsburgh fans to a
fine
pitching duel at THREE RIVERS STADIUM. The Pittsburgh Pirates eventually
emerged as victors over the dreadful Montreal Expos by the score of 3 to
1.

Montreal was unable to claim the lead after Pittsburgh went ahead in the
bottom of the 2nd inning scoring a single run on 2 hits. Pittsburgh had 8
hits for the night while Montreal had 5.

Dave Giusti was credited with his 19th save.

Game 3
One run was the difference at THREE RIVERS STADIUM as the Pittsburgh Pirates
defeated the slumping Montreal Expos in 10 innings 2 to 1.

The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. Pittsburgh won it in
the 10th inning. Manny Sanguillen reached on an error. One out later, Dave
Cash dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Roberto Clemente
then
laced a one-base hit making Pittsburgh the winners and sending the 46,848
fans home happy. The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.

The winning pitcher was Ken Reynolds(4-4) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Mike Marshall(3-5) was tagged with the loss in relief. It was a tough loss
for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 3 and 2/3 innings of work.

No one has been able to stop Pittsburgh lately as they lengthened their
winning streak to 6 games.

Game 4
Willie Stargell went yard and had 2 RBI as the sizzling Pittsburgh Pirates
topped the ice-cold Montreal Expos by a score of 9 to 5 at THREE RIVERS
STADIUM.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning Pittsburgh scored 6 runs with the help of 5
hits. That was all Bruce Kison(3-8) needed. Overall Pittsburgh out-hit
Montreal 11 to 6.

Rich Hand(6-12) suffered the loss. He was knocked around by Pittsburgh,
allowing 8 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings. Pittsburgh won for the
7th
straight time.
