AUGUST 14 Turk Farrell finished beautifully as the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York AL Yankees by a score of 11 to 5. Tex Clevenger(8-3) earned the victory with a fine relief performance. No one got on base in his perfect 1/3 of an inning. Overall Cincinnati out-hit New York AL 15 to 7. Farrell got the save, his 14th. Duke Maas(0-2) was hit with the loss in relief. He pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up 3 hits and 3 walks. AUGUST 15 In a dramatic ending at Crosley Field the Cincinnati Redswon in their last at-bat beating the New York AL Yankees by the count of 4 to 2. Cincinnati came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runs using 2 hits. Frank Robinson led off and he slapped a base-hit. Ron Hansen stepped into the batter's box and he grounded into a double play. Charlie Maxwell then drew a walk. Ed Bailey came up and he bombed a two-run dinger (his 16th of the season) giving Cincinnati the victory as 49,427 happy fans celebrated wildly. Cincinnati had only 6 hits for the afternoon. The victory went to Turk Farrell(7-9) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. Whitey Ford(14-8) absorbed the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 8 and 2/3 innings of work. Chuck Cottier was up next and he delivered a single scoring the final run of the inning. Cincinnati finished with 10 hits in the victory.
