In a tight game it was the seemingly unstoppable Pittsburgh Pirates 5, the
Chicago NL Cubs 3 in 10 innings at WRIGLEY FIELD.

The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Pittsburgh ended up winning it
in the 10th inning. Richie Hebner got things rolling when he hit a
bases-empty home run (his 15th of the season). Manny Sanguillen followed and
he doubled. Dave Cash then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Bob Robertson came
up and he doubled scoring the final run of the inning. The game was a
scoreless duel until the 6th inning.

The victory was credited to Luke Walker(4-4) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Dave Giusti earned the save, his 20th. Juan Pizarro(2-7) was the loser
in relief.

The winning ways continue for Pittsburgh. They now have a record of 9-1 in
recent days. With this loss, Chicago NL has a 3-7 record of late, 42-61
overall.

The Chicago NL Cubs defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 10 to 7 at
WRIGLEY FIELD.

Aurelio Rodriguez helped send the fans home happy. He cleared the bases with
a Grand Slam homerun (his 12th of the season) in the 1st inning and doubled
plating two runs in the 6th inning. Pittsburgh was not lacking for run
support as they scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they
seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win ballgames.

Larry Dierker(5-5) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 6 innings. Dierker was
helped out by Vince Colbert who recorded his 2nd save. Ken Reynolds(4-5) was
the losing pitcher. He was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs in 3 innings.
