Subject: Montreal at St. Louis Week 16

Alan/Michael:

I apologize for not saving print files for games 1 and 2. I was so excited
over winning both games. The Cardinals come back to win the final two.
Needless to say, we come up just short against Gibson again who wins his
17th game.

New manager attached. Let me know if I need to be spanked for failing to
save my two wins.

Game 1
Bob Bailey jacked one out of the ballyard as the Montreal Expos defeated the
St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 8 to 4 at BUSCH STADIUM.

Montreal took the lead for good in the top of the 7th inning scoring one
runner utilizing 2 base hits. Montreal had 13 hits for the night while St.
Louis had 10.

Woodie Fryman(5-8) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Jerry
Reuss(7-10) was the loser. He pitched 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 8 hits and
1 walk.

Game 2
Ron Fairly had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at BUSCH STADIUM where the Montreal
Expos
beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of 4 to 1.

St. Louis was unable to claim the lead after Montreal went ahead in the 4th
inning as they scored 2 runs on 4 base hits. The key at-bat was by Fairly
who silenced the stadium when he lined a single scoring two baserunners.
Montreal had 9 hits for the game and St. Louis had 4.

Carl Morton(6-10) got the win allowing 1 run in 5 and 2/3 innings. Mike
Marshall earned his 20th save. Reggie Cleveland(10-10) ended up with the
loss. Montreal now has a record of 36-72. With the loss St. Louis now has
a
record of 51-57.

Game 3
Lou Brock had 2 base hits at BUSCH STADIUM as the St. Louis Cardinals beat
the
pathetic Montreal Expos by the count of 4 to 1.

Mike Kekich(3-10) gave St. Louis a solid outing. He went 8 innings
surrendering 9 hits and 1 walk. Neither team managed to score after the 3rd
inning.

Kekich got relief help from Jerry Reuss who gained credit for his 2nd save.
Rich Hand(6-13) suffered the loss. He allowed 4 hits and 4 walks in 8
innings.

Game 4
Tim Foli had 2 base hits and Bob Gibson reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts
at
BUSCH STADIUM where the St. Louis Cardinals beat the league door-mat
Montreal
Expos 3 to 2.

Gibson(17-6) gave St. Louis a solid outing. He was stingy on the mound,
allowing just 4 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. Montreal had a chance to come
back in the 9th but they came up short.

Dave Laroche earned the save, his 8th. Ernie McAnally(5-12) was tagged with
the loss. He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an
earned
run in the game.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Gibson - except Montreal. Steve
Bivens lamented, 'He just was 'on' this afternoon. He was keeping our guys
off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a
fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were the visitors!'
