AUGUST 24 In a thriller the Washington Senators staged a dramatic comeback over the New York AL Yankees winning by a score of 7 to 6 at Griffith Stadium. Washington came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 3 hits. Harmon Killebrew led off and keyed the rally when he laced a base-knock. Vic Power stepped into the batter's box and he lined a single. Gene Woodling then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Earl Battey came up and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. Bob Allison was the next batter, but he struck out. Willie Tasby contributed to the rally and doubled giving Washington the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Washington managed 9 in their victory. The victory was credited to Gary Bell(10-12) who went 3 innings, allowing no runs. Bobby Shantz(3-6) was tagged with the loss in relief. Washington's manager was all smiles after the ballgame, 'It sure was looking pretty dim there for a while, but our guys never gave up - and neither did our fans - they kept cheering us on. What a sweet win!'
