Buddy Bradford homered and Steve Blass carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning
as the Pittsburgh Pirates outscored the New York NL Mets 6 to 1.

Blass(18-2) had a solid outing for Pittsburgh.  He went 8 innings allowing 4
hits and 4 walks.  The right-handed Blass lost his no-hit bid when Pat Kelly
singled with nobody out in the 6th inning.  Overall Pittsburgh out-hit New
York NL 12 to 5.  

The loss was charged to Jerry Koosman(8-8).  He gave up 8 hits and no walks in
6 and 1/3 innings.

Jim McAndrew pitched 7 strong innings and Pat Kelly slammed a homerun and had
2 RBI as the New York NL Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 10 to
2.

Pittsburgh was unable to recover after New York NL went ahead in the 2nd
inning as they scored 2 runs on 2 base hits.  New York NL had 14 hits for the
night while Pittsburgh had 7.  

McAndrew(7-9) allowed no runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. Bruce
Kison(3-9) ended up with the loss.  New York NL scored big getting 7 runs off
him in 5 innings.  

The New York NL ballclub's record now stands at 54-58. With the loss,
Pittsburgh has a record of 7-3 lately, 60-48 overall.

Johnny Bench slammed a homerun and had 2 RBI at SHEA STADIUM as the New York
NL Mets beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 3 to 2.

Pittsburgh never recovered after New York NL took the lead in the bottom of
the 5th inning scoring one runner.  New York NL had a total of 8 hits for the
game.  

Jon Matlack(15-8) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Danny Frisella recorded the save, his 7th.  Bob Moose(10-6)
suffered the loss.

Roberto Clemente had 5 hits and 2 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the
New York NL Mets by a score of 10 to 4 at SHEA STADIUM.

Pittsburgh wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they
tallied 3 runs on 3 hits.  The big moment was provided by Willie Stargell who
deflated the crowd as he bombed a two-run dinger (his 24th of the season).
Pittsburgh finished with 12 hits in the victory.  

The win went to Dock Ellis(10-8) who allowed 4 runs in 6 innings. Luke Walker
got the save, his 2nd.  Earl Stephenson(2-3) was charged with the loss.  He
was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs in 5 innings.
