august 28 In a tight game it was the Washington Senators 6, the New York AL Yankees 4 at Griffith Stadium. Bennie Daniels(1-0) earned his pay with a solid performance for Washington. He went 8 and 1/3 innings surrendering 4 hits and 3 walks lowering his ERA from 9.00 to 4.82. New York AL threatened in the 9th but Washington was able to put down the rally. Daniels was helped out by Ken Johnson who recorded his 2nd save. Bob Turley(11-9) was charged with the loss. He pitched 6 innings allowing 6 hits and 8 walks. Washington erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runs. Gene Woodling led off and started the attack as he drew a walk. Vic Power came next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Billy Gardner then blasted a two-run home run (his 10th of the season) giving Washington the victory and sending the 35,427 home-town fans home happy. Overall Washington out-hit New York AL 10 to 7.
