With the hometown crowd on the edge of their seats, Washington Senators came
from behind to top New York AL Yankees, 5 to 4.

Washington erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
with 2 runs.  Gene Woodling led off and started the attack as he drew a walk.
Vic Power came next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Billy Gardner then
blasted a two-run home run (his 10th of the season) giving Washington the
victory and sending the 35,427 home-town fans home happy.  Overall Washington
out-hit New York AL 10 to 7.

Humberto Robinson(3-2) was the winner allowing 1 run in 2 innings. Bobby
Shantz(3-7) was charged with the loss in relief.  He surrendered 2 runs and 1
hit in 1/3 of an inning.
