may 15 Left fielder Willie Horton hit 2 doubles at Tiger Stadium as the Detroit Tigers beat the New York AL Yankees 1 to 0. The game was decided in the bottom of the 8th inning. Norm Cash drew a walk. Horton followed and he doubled scoring the run. New York AL made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Mickey Lolich(6-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing no runs. Mike Marshall gained credit for his 6th save. Jim Bouton(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run and 1 hit in 1 inning. Despite losing Billy Vanson was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'
