Left fielder Willie Horton hit 2 doubles at Tiger Stadium as the Detroit
Tigers beat the New York AL Yankees 1 to 0.

The game was decided in the bottom of the 8th inning.  Norm Cash drew a walk.
Horton followed and he doubled scoring the run.  New York AL made it exciting
in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Mickey Lolich(6-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing
no runs. Mike Marshall gained credit for his 6th save.  Jim Bouton(0-1)
absorbed the loss in relief.  He gave up 1 run and 1 hit in 1 inning.

Despite losing Billy Vanson was optimistic after the game.  'We'll get over
this one.  Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't.  Any one
of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'

Bill Freehan blasted 2 homeruns and scored 3 times at Tiger Stadium where the
Detroit Tigers beat the ice-cold New York AL Yankees 6 to 2.

Freehan enjoyed a big day at the plate.  He blasted a solo shot in the 3rd
inning, cracked a solo homerun (his 11th of the season) in the 5th inning and
lined a base-hit in the 8th inning.  Detroit finished with 13 hits while New
York AL ended up with 5.

Earl Wilson(2-5) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 2 runs. Al Downing(0-7) absorbed the loss.  He struck out 10 batters
in 7 innings despite losing the game.

Detroit extended their winning streak to 6 games. Billy Vanson was upset but
philosophical about the loss.  'Sometimes you run into a team that's on a
roll.  This was one of those times.'
