Previous message                 Next message Message #: 6205 Message from: Rene Sent: Feb 14, 2003 Subject: WRL Looking for Hall of Fame Committee Members I am looking for 200-300 fans to sit on the Way Retro League Hall of Fame Committee. Please take the time to read the following message. Here is a unique opportunity. The Way Retro League has an ambitious goal of replaying the entire history of baseball in a draft format beginning in 1901 and 1951. We are currently in the 1905 and 1954 seasons. Most leagues have the league owners select the Hall of Fame Inductees but our league does things a little differently. One of the things we would like to do is to have a WRL Hall Of Fame Committee. You can be an esteemed member of this committee!!! I am looking for baseball, strat-o-matic, APBA fans who are willing to cast their vote and make history by deciding the members of the WRL Hall of Fame. You will create the Hall from the ground up. You will be provided with ballots once a year with statistics of the players nominated for the WRL Hall of Fame. All you have to do is this...We will send you a ballot that will have the stats of the nominees, look at the stats, decide if the player should be a Hall of Famer in your estimation and check next to the player's names if you want them in the WRL HOF. The guidelines are the same as the MLB HOF except that a player must have 10 years service in our league. 75% of vote needed to be inducted. 5% of the vote to stay on the ballot for a limited time. No wait period once it is known that a player's career is over. Your voting record will be private. No one will know except the Commissioner of the WRL. We will also ask for Volunteers to join other committees such as the "Short Career Committee" and the "Olt Timer's Committee" for players who played before 1900 or partially played in the 1901-1905 seasons or something like that. Here's what you get!! You get to follow our league from now until the end of the line. Follow Lajoie, to Cobb, Mathewson, Bender, Speaker, Ruth, Mays, Williams, and on and on and on. We estimate the league will take 13 years to get caught up to the current day (2002) and then we will catch up with the years between now and 13 years from now so we will eventually get caught up and in a current mode. Our league is split into two half century leagues. We split the century up so we can do this replay in a reasonable amount of time. I currently have 30 members of the WRL HOF Committee and am looking for 200-300 total. I got the 30 members from just friends and league members so I suspect that the other 150-250 will come together pretty well in the next 10 months. I will be advertising at SOM, Yahoo and other forums. We may even get some special voters involved. Who knows??? Come and be a part of this exciting membership.
