Warren Spahn tossed a complete game at County Stadium as the Milwaukee Braves
beat the New York AL Yankees 7 to 3.

Gene Freese enjoyed a fine evening at the plate.  He lofted a three-run bomb
(his 1st of the season) in the 1st inning, banged out a single which plated a
run in the 2nd inning and doubled in the 6th inning.  Milwaukee banged out 15
on the night.

The win was credited to Spahn(1-0) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs.
Whitey Ford(0-1) was tagged with the loss.  He was touched for 13 hits and 4
walks in 5 innings.

Hoyt Wilhelm pitched a 3 hitter at County Stadium where theMilwaukee Braves
beat the New York AL Yankees by the score of 2 to 1.

Milwaukee scored the deciding run in the 8th inning.  Billy Martin laced a
single.  Hank Aaron stepped into the batter's box and he slapped a single.
Aaron took second on the throw.  Orlando Cepeda then was walked intentionally
to load the bases.  Gene Freese was up next and he delivered a single scoring
the run.  Milwaukee had only 6 hits for the night.

Wilhelm(1-0), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Bobby
Shantz(0-1) was given the loss in relief.  'Wilhelm gave us exactly what we
needed tonight,' Milwaukee's manager said. 'When he threw the fastball he
threw it for strikes.  They were really fooled by his change.  Most of the
time he had them chasing it.'
