may 22 In a dramatic ending the New York AL Yankees staged a comeback and held on to win over the San Francisco Giants by the count of 4 to 3. New York AL won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Roy White started the rally when he singled. Horace Clarke stepped up next and he banged out a single. Joe Pepitone then laced a one-base hit plating a run. Steve Whitaker was up next and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the inning. Both teams finished the game with 8 hits. The winning pitcher was Joe Verbanic(1-2) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an inning. Verbanic got help from Dooley Womack who was credited with his 4th save. Frank Linzy(1-1) was the loser in relief. 'The only way this one could have been better', said Verbanic, 'was if we had played it at home.'
