Leon Wagner ripped 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Griffith Stadium as the New
York AL Yankees beat the ice-cold Washington Senators by the count of 8 to
3.

Wagner led the offense for New York AL.  He popped a two-run clout over the
fence in the 5th inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his
7th of the season) in the 7th inning.  New York AL out-hit Washington for the
game, 12 hits to 6.

Bob Turley(5-6) went 6 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Turley got
help from Don Larsen who was credited with his 3rd save.  Gary Bell(6-12)
suffered the loss.  He gave up 7 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings and saw his ERA
jump from 3.12 to 3.38.

In a good matchup it was the New York AL Yankees 8, the struggling Washington
Senators 6 in 13 innings at Griffith Stadium.

The score was tied at 6 after nine.  New York AL won the game in the 13th
inning.  Billy Klaus kicked off the action when he lined a single.  Gil
McDougald was next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  One out later, Elston
Howard came to the plate and was walked intentionally.  Mickey Mantle was up
next and he drew a walk to load the bases.  Bill Skowron stepped into the box
and laced a one-base hit bringing in two baserunners.  Skowron took second on
the throw.  Both teams ended up with 12 on the night.

Bobby Shantz(5-3) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Al
Worthington(0-5) ended up with the loss in relief.  He surrendered 2 runs and
