6th inning at Fenway Park where the New York AL Yankees beat the Boston Red
Sox by the score of 3 to 0.

Ford(16-7) contributed a very nicely pitched game.  He allowed just 3 hits and

managed 8 in their victory.

Billy O'Dell(13-11) took the loss.  He gave up 2 runs and 5 hits in 6 innings.

September 2

At Fenway Park, the Boston fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.  Jim
Coates(7-5) finally bested his Boston opposite, Harvey Haddix(19-6), by the
score of 2 to 1.

New York AL tallied 2 runs in the top of the 7th inning with the help of 5
hits.  Elston Howard kicked off the action when he banged out a single.
Bobby Richardson stepped up to the plate and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.
Gil McDougald then slapped a base-hit.  McDougald took second on the throw.
Tony Kubek came up and he doubled which scored a run.  Bill Skowron stepped
into the box and was walked intentionally.  Mickey Mantle added to the
uprising and lined a single to load the bases.  Norm Siebern stepped into the
batter's box and he ripped a base-knock scoring the final run of the inning.
The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th inning.

Ryne Duren earned the save, his 30th.  Haddix was the loser.  He was hit hard
and gave up 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings.

14,521 fans watched an exciting game at Fenway Park.  The New York AL Yankees
topped the Boston Red Sox by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings.  New York AL won the
hard fought contest in the 10th inning.  Gil McDougald drew a walk.  Mickey
Mantle followed and he doubled.  One out later, Marv Throneberry came up and
he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run.  Despite losing, Boston out-hit New
York AL 13 to 7.

The victory went to Bobby Shantz(8-4) who went 1 and 2/3 innings, allowing no
runs. Shantz was helped out by Ryne Duren who recorded his 31st save.  John
Buzhardt(1-4) absorbed the loss in relief.
