august 31 Norm Siebern blasted a homerun and Whitey Ford carried a no-hitter
into the 6th inning at Fenway Park where the New York AL Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox by the score of 3 to 0. Ford(16-7) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He allowed
just 3 hits and 5 walks in 9 innings. The left-handed Ford lost his chance for a no-hitter when Dick Gernert singled with two outs in the 6th inning. New York AL managed 8 in their victory. Billy O'Dell(13-11) took the loss. He gave up 2 runs and 5

Mickey Mantle added to the uprising and lined a single to load the bases. Norm Siebern stepped into the batter's box and he ripped a base-knock scoring the final run of the inning. The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th inning. Ryne Duren earned the save, his 30th. Haddix was the
loser. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings. One out later, Marv Throneberry came up and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. Despite losing, Boston out-hit New York AL 13 to 7. The victory went to Bobby Shantz(8-4) who went 1 and 2/3 innings,
allowing no runs. Shantz was helped out by Ryne Duren who recorded his 31st save. John Buzhardt(1-4) absorbed the loss in relief. [1]
