The game was won by New York AL with a run in the top of the 8th inning. After two were out Skowron hit a bases-empty home run (his 1st of the season). New York AL out-hit Chicago NL for the game, 12 hits to 7. The win went to Jim Coates(1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 7 innings. The loss was charged to Elmer Singleton(0-1) in relief.
