One run was the difference at Busch Stadium as the St. Louis Cardinals
defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to 3.

Bob Gibson(5-6) pitched well enough to earn the win. He allowed 11 hits and 3
walks in 7 innings reducing his ERA from 4.03 to 3.81. Pittsburgh had a
chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Gibson got relief help from Bob Locker who gained credit for his 7th save.
Ken Brett(4-10) was the loser. 'Fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals'
said Darren Dawson after the game. 'We lost this game tonight because we
didn't follow the instructions every Little Leaguer hears every day.'
