April 3

Warren Spahn had a strong outing as the Milwaukee Braves beat the New York AL
Yankees by a score of 5 to 0.

Milwaukee jumped on top to stay in the 3rd inning scoring a single run.  That
early scoring was all that Spahn(1-0) needed.  Milwaukee totaled 7 on the
night.

Whitey Ford(0-1) was the loser.  He pitched 7 innings and surrendered 6 hits
and 2 walks. 'Spahn was the man tonight,' Milwaukee's manager said.  'He had
just about every pitch working.'

Leon Wagner slammed a homerun and had 5 RBI and Bob Turley went the distance
at County Stadium where the New York AL Yankees beat the Milwaukee Braves by
the score of 10 to 3.

Wagner enjoyed a big evening at the plate.  He stroked a base-hit in the 1st
inning, ripped a base-knock which was good for two runs in the 6th inning and
smacked a three-run homer (his 1st of the season) in the 8th inning.  New
York AL totaled 14 on the night.

The victory was credited to Turley(1-0) who went the distance, allowing 3
runs. Lew Burdette(0-1) absorbed the loss.  He was unable to control the New
York AL offense and allowed 11 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings.
