Stan Lopata blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI at Briggs Stadium where the
Detroit Tigers beat the New York AL Yankees by the score of 9 to 2.
 
Jim Bunning(2-0) gave Detroit a solid outing.  He allowed 5 hits and 6 walks
in 7 and 2/3 innings.  Bunning whiffed an impressive total of 9 New York AL
batters.  Detroit ended up with 9 hits for the game while New York AL had 6.
 
The losing pitcher was Vinegar Bend Mizell(0-1).  He gave up 8 runs in 5
innings and saw his ERA jump from 2.57 to 3.00.

Frank Bolling hit for the CYCLE and had 2 RBI as the Detroit Tigers topped the
New York AL Yankees by a score of 8 to 3 at Briggs Stadium.
 
It was a good day for Detroit thanks to Bolling.  He blasted a solo shot (his
2nd of the season) in the 3rd inning, doubled in the 5th inning, tripled
which plated a run in the 6th inning and hit a single in the 8th inning.  New
York AL had 12 hits in the game while Detroit had 9, but Detroit had the more
timely hits. 
 
Bob Friend(2-0) went 5 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Billy Hoeft
gained credit for his 2nd save.  Duke Maas(0-2) was the losing pitcher.  He
surrendered 6 runs and 6 hits in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Detroit took the lead for keeps in the 6th inning when they tallied 2 runs on
2 hits.  The highlight belonged to Harvey Kuenn who brought the crowd to
their feet when he blasted a two-run home run (his 1st of the season).
Detroit managed 8 in their victory.

from Herb Moford who was credited with his 5th save.  The losing pitcher was
