In a thrilling finish the Los Angeles Dodgers won in dramatic fashion coming
back to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 5 to 4.

Los Angeles scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 2 runs using 2
hits. After an out was recorded, Dick Dietz kicked off the action when he
drew a walk. Crawford got a good lead and stole second. Davey Lopes then
drew a walk. Gary Matthews came up and he slapped a single resulting in a
run. Willie McCovey stepped into the box and stroked a one-base hit
resulting in an exciting win for Los Angeles and a raucous post-game
celebration by the home town fans. Los Angeles finished with 11 hits in the
victory.

Horacio Pina(6-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing
no runs. The loss was charged to Dave Giusti(1-2) in relief. By giving up 2
runs in 1 and 1/3 innings his ERA increased from 2.93 to 3.41.

Scott Campbell was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought
game like that. Our guys just weren't going to be denied. And did you see
the fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this
afternoon!'
