Gil McDougald connected with a 'big fly' and had 2 RBI and Whitey Ford
delivered 7 solid innings at Comiskey Park as the New York AL Yankees beat
the Chicago AL White Sox by the count of 10 to 2.

New York AL tallied 3 runs in the top of the 2nd inning.  That early run
support was enough for Ford(2-3) and New York AL.  New York AL out-hit
Chicago AL for the game, 15 hits to 7.

Billy Pierce(2-1) ended up with the loss.  By giving up 6 runs in 6 innings
his ERA increased from 1.85 to 2.40.  'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed.
Man alive, things were getting awfully grim,' noted New York AL's manager.
'Now, we need to string a bunch of wins together and turn things around!'

The New York AL Yankees had very little trouble at Comiskey Park downing the
Chicago AL White Sox.  The score was 8 to 3.

New York AL had the game winning rally in the top of the 8th inning when they
tallied 6 runs on 5 hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Leon Wagner who
helped quiet the crowd when he slapped a base-hit which was good for two
runs.  New York AL had a total of 11 hits for the game.

Bob Turley(5-1) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 7 innings. Jim Wilson(0-2)
was the loser.  He surrendered 5 runs and 7 hits in 7 and 1/3 innings.

April 30

Joe Nuxhall mowed down 10 New York AL batters at Comiskey Park as the Chicago
AL White Sox beat the New York AL Yankees 5 to 4.

Nuxhall(3-1) pitched a fine game.  He went 8 innings surrendering 7 hits and 2
walks and allowed 2 gopher balls.  New York AL had a chance in the 9th but
they came up short.

Ed Roebuck recorded the save, his 1st.  Bobby Shantz(3-1) was tagged with the
loss in relief.  He surrendered 3 runs and 6 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings.

New York AL's manager was upset after the game.  'I don't like to complain but
did you see that umpires strike zone?', he said.  'Maybe they ought to start
calling the strike zone the way it's printed in the rule book.'
