At Candlestick Park, the San Francisco fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.
Jim Rooker(8-2) finally bested his San Francisco opposite, Claude
Osteen(6-8), by the score of 2 to 1.
The game was won by Pittsburgh with a run in the 8th inning. Manny Sanguillen
reached on an error. Darren Dawson then called for a steal which was
successful. After an out was recorded, Rooker came to the plate and would
hit into a fielders choice scoring the run. Despite losing, San Francisco
out-hit Pittsburgh 5 to 2.
Dave Giusti was credited with his 19th save. Osteen was the loser. He allowed
just 2 runs and 2 hits in 9 innings.

One run was the difference at Candlestick Park as the San Francisco Giants
defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to 3.
Tom Bradley(9-5) pitched a fine game. He went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 7
hits and 1 walk. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but San Francisco was able
to put down the rally.
Bradley got help from Jim Brewer who was credited with his 7th save. The loss
was charged to Jim Merritt(0-3). 'Just one or two mistakes were all it took
to beat us today' Darren Dawson said. 'We take these games one day at a
time, but this one was hard to take.'
