May 8 Yogi Berra smacked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Fenway Park where
the New York AL Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox by the score of 5 to 1. Berra had a big day with his bat. He laced a one-base hit in
the 2nd inning, ripped a solo home run in the 6th inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 5th of the season) in the 8th inning. New York AL had 13 hits for the game and Boston had 10. Whitey Ford(3-3) went 7 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Ryne Duren was credited with his 9th save. Tom Brewer(2-2) was the losing pitcher. 'We really needed this win' said New York AL's manager. 'That
first drink of water at the end of a drought sure does taste good!' [1]

New York AL promptly took the lead in their half of the first as they
scored 3 runs on 2 base hits. The highlight belonged to Elston Howard who silenced the stadium when he tripled plating two runs. Boston went down without a fight in the bottom of the 9th. Bob Turley(7-1) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 6 innings.
Bobby Shantz earned his 2nd save. Billy O'Dell(4-2) was hit with the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs in 5 innings. The win by New York AL was very good news as they had been 2-8 of
late. Now their seasonal record improves to a division leading 24-13. Not able to get much going in recent weeks, Boston is 0-10 of late and now has an overall record of 21-16. [1]

AL Yankees by a score of 5 to 2 at Fenway Park. Ray Semproch(4-2) pitched a fine game. He surrendered 6 hits and 4
walks in 8 innings improving his ERA from 4.66 to 4.31. Boston had only 5 hits for the night. Semproch was helped out by Murray Wall who recorded his 4th save.
Don Larsen(2-1) was the losing pitcher. Boston's manager was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of games -- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back. Now maybe we can relax a little and play the kind of baseball of which we are capable.' [1]
