Marty Perez had 4 hits at Fulton Co. Stadium as the Atlanta Braves beat the
Pittsburgh Pirates by the count of 5 to 3.
Atlanta tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning when they had 3 base
hits. Perez started the inning off right when he slapped a single. After an
out was recorded, Hank Aaron stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk.
Billy Williams then laced a single plating a run. One out later, Gary
Sutherland came to the plate and laced a base-hit scoring the final run of
the inning. Pittsburgh made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to
push the needed runs across.
Ron Schueler(4-6) got the win allowing 3 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Cecil
Upshaw earned the save, his 15th. Jim Merritt(0-4) ended up with the loss.
He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 8 hits and 2 walks in 4
innings.

Hebner had a big day with his bat. He doubled in the 2nd inning, doubled
plating a run in the 5th inning and lofted a three-run bomb (his 12th of the
season) in the 8th inning. For the game Pittsburgh out-hit Atlanta 17 to 13.
