He cracked a solo homerun in the 2nd inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 28th of the season) in the 3rd inning and doubled bringing in a run in the 5th inning. New York AL banged out 14 on the night. The winning pitcher was Duke Maas(9-4) who allowed 2 runs in 7 innings. Bob Purkey(11-10) was the losing pitcher. Brooks Lawrence(5-9) finally bested his New York AL opposite, Vinegar Bend Mizell(3-9), by the score of 1 to 0. The winning run, and the only run, was scored by Cincinnati in the 2nd inning. The early run support proved sufficient for Lawrence and Cincinnati. That was all the run support Lawrence required. New York AL had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. Dick Hyde earned his 21st save. Mizell took the loss. He surrendered only 1 run and 2 hits in 6 innings.
