august 7 Third baseman Pancho Herrera went deep and had 2 RBI as the potent New York AL Yankees topped the struggling Chicago AL White Sox in 12 innings by a score of 5 to 3 at Comiskey Park. The score was tied at 3 after nine. New York AL won it in the 12th inning. After two were out Norm Siebern opened up the rally as he slapped a single. Larry Doby stepped into the batter's box and he cracked a two-run shot (his 14th of the season). The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning. The victory went to Bobby Shantz(6-2) who went 2 and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs. Bob Lemon(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 2 runs and 4 hits in 2 innings.
