Gail Harris blasted 2 homeruns and scored 3 times as the spectacular Detroit
Tigers defeated the New York AL Yankees in 10 innings by a score of 4 to 3 at
Briggs Stadium.

The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings.  Detroit came out the victor in
the 10th inning.  After two outs Harris delivered a solo blast (his 27th of
the season) resulting in an exciting win for Detroit and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans.  New York AL was out-hit by Detroit, 11
hits to 7.

George Susce(4-5) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Ryne
Duren(1-4) was tagged with the loss in relief.  Despite taking the loss, he
whiffed 4 batters in 1 and 2/3 innings.

'Ahhh, that victory was surely needed.  Man alive, things were getting awfully
grim,' noted Detroit's manager.  'Now, we need to string a bunch of wins
together and turn things around!'
