40,553 fans were treated to a fine game at Municipal Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The New York AL Yankees won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.

New York AL won the game with a run in the top of the 9th inning.  Gil
McDougald drew a walk.  Wally Burnette then threw a pitch that the catcher
muffed.  Bobby Richardson then laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Burnette then let
a pitch get away from him scoring the run.  Kansas City was out-hit by New
York AL, 10 hits to 7.

The win was credited to Tommy Byrne(1-0) who went 2 innings allowing no runs.
Bob Grim gained credit for his 2nd save.  Burnette(0-1) suffered the loss in
relief.  He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned
run in the game.
