April 20 At Griffith Stadium the New York AL Yankees ended a long winless drought and outscored the Washington Senators 6 to 3. New York AL came up with 2 runs in the 2nd inning. The crucial at-bat was provided by Bobby Richardson who silenced the crowd when he lashed a single scoring two baserunners. New York AL had 16 hits for the game and Washington had 8. The winning pitcher was Bobby Shantz(1-1) who allowed 3 runs in 7 innings. Shantz got help from Bob Grim who was credited with his 6th save. Chuck Stobbs(0-4) was the loser. He gave up 5 runs in 4 innings of work. 'It felt really nice to get this win,' Shantz said. 'I kind of dictated the game. It's what I get paid to do. It worked out this time.'
