April 27 Third baseman Andy Carey cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Boston Red Sox outscored the New York AL Yankees 8 to 3. Carey helped send the fans home happy. He lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 4th inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 2nd of the season) in the 5th inning. Boston totaled 13 on the night. Billy O'Dell(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no runs. Whitey Ford(3-1) ended up with the loss. He was unable to control the Boston offense and allowed 9 hits and 4 walks in 5 innings.
