May 1 They almost ran out of baseballs at Griffith Stadium as New York AL Yankees clobbered the Washington Senators pitching staff, scoring 13 runs while Tom Sturdivant(2-1), with relief help from Art Ditmar, mystified Washington. New York AL jumped out to the early lead in the first inning when they tallied 4 runs on 5 hits. That early run support was enough for Sturdivant and New York AL. Overall New York AL out-hit Washington 16 to 8. Chuck Stobbs(1-6) was tagged with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 6 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings. The win by New York AL was very good news as they had been 1-9 of late. Now their seasonal record improves to a division leading 20-9. Not able to get much going in recent weeks, Washington is 0-10 of late and now has an overall record of 6-23, worst in the division.
