Subject: RESULTS Yankees @ Orioles

May 11

Catcher Yogi Berra blasted a homerun as the New York AL Yankees outscored the
Baltimore Orioles 4 to 3.

New York AL scored 3 runs in the 7th inning with the help of 3 hits.  The big
moment was provided by Mickey Mantle who deflated the mood of the partisan
fans when he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 9th of the season).
Baltimore had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory was credited to Hoyt Wilhelm(1-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Art Ditmar recorded the save, his 3rd.  Connie Johnson(1-5) was charged
with the loss.

'This was a tough loss,' said Baltimore's manager, 'the kind that sticks with
you for awhile.'

In a close game it was the New York AL Yankees 8, the Baltimore Orioles 6 at
Memorial Stadium.

Baltimore was unable to recover after New York AL went ahead in the top of the
4th inning when they tallied 4 runs on 2 hits.  The crucial at-bat was
provided by Gus Zernial who silenced the crowd when he belted a three-run
homer (his 4th of the season).  New York AL had a total of 9 hits for the
game.

Bob Turley(5-1) allowed no runs in 5 innings, and picked up the victory. Sam

Mickey Mantle had 3 base hits and Don Larsen allowed New York AL's manager to
rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the New York AL Yankees defeated
the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 4 to 1 at Memorial Stadium.

Baltimore fell behind quickly as the New York AL offense came through in the
first inning scoring a single run using 2 hits.  Billy Consolo laced a
one-base hit.  Tony Kubek followed and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Mantle
then stroked a base-hit scoring the run.  Neither team managed to score after
the 3rd inning.

Larsen(2-0) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Bill Fischer(0-6)
suffered the loss.  He was knocked around, surrendering 4 runs in 3 innings.

With this win, New York AL has a division leading 27-12 record.  They have
been 4-6 lately.  Still in a bad slump, with this loss, Baltimore is 0-10
lately and 14-25 on the year.
