Jake Gibbs had 2 base hits and Sam McDowell pitched 9 strong innings at
Comiskey Park as the New York AL Yankees beat the Chicago AL White Sox 3 to
0.
 
McDowell(6-9) was tremendous on the mound for New York AL.  He surrendered
only 4 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.88 to 3.68.
Chicago AL went down quietly in the bottom of the 9th. 
 
Joel Horlen(11-13) suffered the loss.  He pitched 8 innings giving up 7 hits
and 3 walks.

The Chicago AL White Sox edged the New York AL Yankees at Comiskey Park by the
score of 5 to 4.
 
Chicago AL came up with 2 runs in the 7th inning.  John O'Donoghue(8-4) got
relief help from Hoyt Wilhelm who was excellent in relief and gained credit
for his 16th save. 
 
Al Downing(6-13) was tagged with the loss.  With this win, Chicago AL has a
59-56 record.  They have been 6-4 lately.  Not able to get much going in
recent weeks, New York AL is 2-8 of late and now has an overall record of
40-75, worst in the division.

Fred Talbot had 2 base hits at Comiskey Park where the New York AL Yankees
beat the Chicago AL White Sox by the score of 5 to 3.
 
New York AL came up with 4 runs in the top of the 4th inning when they had 5
base hits.  The key at-bat was by Steve Whitaker who silenced the stadium
when he doubled scoring two baserunners.  New York AL finished with 10 hits
in the victory. 
 
Talbot(4-7) went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Talbot got
help from Dooley Womack who earned his 15th save.  Fred Klages(1-5) absorbed
the loss.  He gave up 5 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings of work. 
 
With this win, New York AL has a 41-75 record.  They have been 3-7 lately.
With the loss Chicago AL now has a record of 59-57.

Steve Whitaker had 2 base hits and 3 RBI at Comiskey Park as the New York AL
Yankees beat the Chicago AL White Sox 10 to 4.
 
New York AL took the lead for good in the top of the 2nd inning scoring 3 runs
on 3 hits.  Mickey Mantle led off and started the attack as he drew a walk.
Tom Tresh was next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Joe Pepitone then
delivered a single scoring a run.  Pepitone took second on the throw.  Ruben
Amaro came up and he delivered a one-base hit, and an error was also
committed, plating another run.  Whitaker stepped into the box and banged out
a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning.  New York AL had a total of
12 hits for the game. 
 
Fritz Peterson(6-7) went 6 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Peterson got
