May 15 Center fielder Mickey Mantle went yard and had 4 RBI as the New York AL Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 11 to 3 at Memorial Stadium. Mantle enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He lined a single which scored a run in the 1st inning, doubled in the 3rd inning and rifled a three-run blast (his 11th of the season) in the 5th inning. For the game New York AL out-hit Baltimore 14 to 6. The win was credited to Tom Sturdivant(4-1) who went 7 innings allowing 2 runs. Connie Johnson(1-6) ended up with the loss. He allowed New York AL 7 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings of work. New York AL, who had been struggling lately, moved their record to a division leading 30-13. They are now 1-9 in their last ten games. Baltimore continued their losing ways and their record is now 16-27. They are 0-10 in their last ten games.
