Center fielder Mickey Mantle went yard and had 4 RBI as the New York AL
Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 11 to 3 at Memorial
Stadium.

Mantle enjoyed a big evening at the plate.  He lined a single which scored a
run in the 1st inning, doubled in the 3rd inning and rifled a three-run blast
(his 11th of the season) in the 5th inning.  For the game New York AL out-hit
Baltimore 14 to 6.

The win was credited to Tom Sturdivant(4-1) who went 7 innings allowing 2
runs. Connie Johnson(1-6) ended up with the loss.  He allowed New York AL 7
runs in 3 and 2/3 innings of work.

New York AL, who had been struggling lately, moved their record to a division
leading 30-13.  They are now 1-9 in their last ten games.  Baltimore
continued their losing ways and their record is now 16-27.  They are 0-10 in
their last ten games.

Roy Sievers slammed 2 homeruns and scored 3 times as the BaltiOrioles
topped the New York AL Yankees by a score of 8 to 2 at Memorial
Stadium.

Sievers enjoyed a big evening at the plate.  He laced a one-base hit in the
2nd inning, cracked a solo homerun in the 4th inning and delivered a solo
blast (his 10th of the season) in the 6th inning.  Baltimore finished with 13
hits while New York AL ended up with 6.

Duke Maas(7-4) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Bobby
Shantz(3-3) was charged with the loss.  He allowed 3 homeruns in 6 innings of
work.

'Ahhh, how sweet it is,' Baltimore's manager sighed.  'That win feels like a
tall, cool drink of water after spending far too much time in the desert
lately.'
