May 22 Hank Bauer launched 2 homeruns as the New York AL Yankees defeated the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 11 to 9 at Crosley Field. Bauer had a big day with his bat. He lost the ball over the fence for three runs in the 1st inning and emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun (his 4th of the season) in the 2nd inning. New York AL ended up with 16 hits for the game while Cincinnati had 13. Vito Valentinetti(1-0) went 6 innings allowing 6 runs for the win. Bob Grim recorded the save, his 9th. Brooks Lawrence(7-5) took the loss. He allowed 7 runs and 6 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings.
