Subject: RE: [SmileyList] Starter Rest Discussion
Well,
this is interesting indeed. Before
I forget, why do we rest the home team for 5 days before each
series? Not
only was I not aware that HAL pays no attention to the Scheduled Starter for
rest considerations, I have even imported home games before playing my road
games!@! Yikes!!! I'm
not sure where this leaves me. I don't much like setting my starter
pitching without regard to rest. Too much Stratball for me. I
suppose I will continue to use the scheduled starter feature, I'll just make
sure I don't import any games!! Of
course, this all depends on the answer to my first question above, because I
just don't get it... Steve
B. When the games
are played does make a huge difference Scott… As Alan and I were
debating this we experimented a little with 1974 games (since the league
hasn’t started) and you can do the same thing.. Play
the first game of the season. Then skip to game 7, the last game of the week.
Your game 1 starter is still tired. We’ve come to the conclusion that strat updates rest based on when the games are
imported/played not on what day of the schedule it
is. As far as matching up
a starter based on opponents, doesn’t that happen in real life. Usually it’s holding a starter back a day, but also
starters are moved up. Unless you have Wilbur Wood, your starters are limited
to 41 starts maximum. That would be 2 starts every week, with the exception of
3 weeks. Without built in off days for travel etc, there has to be some
flexibility in using pitchers. There is problems with a set rotation as well because of the way
strat is setup. If pitcher x starts the last game of
the first series of the week, his next start would be game 1 of the following
week. However, if your second series was imported/played before this series was, when the next week
comes around that pitcher will be fatigued before the game starts, because
hal will think he pitched the previous game, even
though the schedule says there has been 4 days between starts.
I haven’t policed
every game, nor do I care to, but I can’t say there is a definite problem.
Most owners set up their rotation well in advance, for both home and road
games, with some even setting up the entire season.
Most teams have more
than 5 starters on the roster, so even with a rotation, the manager can pick and choose when to start his
6th or even 7th man to stretch his other guys out along
the season… Until strat can figure out how to rest based on the schedule and
not by the order the games are imported, I don’t see a way to require x games
off between starts and still be sure you are getting “fresh” pitchers out
there. Hope this helps you
and anyone else that might have questions on
this. Mike
